Rotary showcases its biggest stage
The best of the best were on display Friday evening at the 62nd annual Rose Bowl held at Medicine Hat College.
The Rose Bowl is the final series of performances by presenters in the Rotary Club’s annual music festival, with results held over to Sunday’s Stars of the Festival night, 7 p.m. at the college, where thousands of dollars in scholarships will be handed out to finalists.
Festival committee chairman Don Davis says he is very satisfied with this year’s music festival, as well as the Rose Bowl.
“We feel terrific about the night, we’ve had a really great two weeks,” he said. “The talent level of the performers here in Medicine Hat is really high; the teachers have been giving great feedback, as have the adjudicator — it’s been a very good festival this year.”
With hundreds of Hatters filling up the college’s theatre, Davis says he knows what the night, and the crowd means to performers.
“This night is so big for all of the performers, and it’s a really special one,” he said. “The performers are so supportive of each other and are so enthusiastic about the night — it seems to be a real grand opportunity for them to take the stage, as well as enjoying each other’s works.”
Davis says his favourite part of the Rose Bowl is seeing the different acts performers can pull off.
“My favourite part of the night is to see all of the kids performing so many different things — it’s incredible.”
First-time Rose Bowl adjudicator Norbert Boehm says he is excited to be part of the festival, and is looking to feel the emotion of each act.
“I’m really excited and honoured to be an adjudicator for the night,” he said. “When I’m grading the acts I’m going to be looking for something that moves me, something that really makes me feel the song.”
