Bail was granted Tuesday to a man arrested in April after police seized a cache of firearms at an Irvine residence.

Denver Ryan Ailsby, 37, appeared by CCTV from the Medicine Hat Remand Centre, with the judge granting bail for $2,000 cash.

Terms of Ailsby’s release include being under housearrest conditions while living with immediate family in Medicine Hat, only allowed out for work and education purposes, for which he must notify police.

His next court appearance is June 6.

As originally reported by Medicine Hat police, Ailsby was arrested alongside Brandalyn Brandham April 12 after police executed a search warrant at a residence and seized 10 firearms, three of which were prohibited due to modification of barrel length. Also seized were four homemade silencers, prohibited magazines, bear spray, 20 grams of marijuana and several boxes and storage containers of ammunition.

The restriction to not have firearms stems from December, when Ailsby pled guilty to firearms and drug possession charges, landing a 105-day sentence that he is serving on weekends.

NYE homicide

One of two men facing second-degree murder charges over a New Year’s Eve homicide made a brief court appearance Tuesday.

Leonard Robert Terence Beaulieu appeared by CCTV from the Calgary Remand Centre, with defence counsel requesting a week’s adjournment to May 16.

Beaulieu’s co-accused, Luke Boxell, was granted bail on strict release conditions and remains with family in Manitoba — his next court appearance is May 11, where the date for a preliminary hearing is expected to be set.

The two were charged following the death of Jordan Pede, who was found injured at Strathcona Park on New Year’s Eve, transported to hospital and later died.

Stabbing and robbery

A woman arrested and charged after a stabbing and robbery over the weekend made a brief first appearance in court on Tuesday.

Laura Forsyth appeared by CCTV from the Medicine Hat Remand Centre, requesting an adjournment to May 11, when she expects her defence counsel to be present.

The 26-year-old woman was charged with one count of robbery with violence and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace after a person was stabbed and robbed Saturday at a motel near Gershaw Drive.
