Gleichen

A 30-year-old man was arrested following almost three hours of dangerous driving that started at the Siksika Nation and ended in Calgary.

The incident began at 7 p.m. on May 6, when Gleichen RCMP responded to a complaint of firearms related threats at Siksika. RCMP located the suspects but they fled in a vehicle that was determined to be stolen. The vehicle was being driven in a dangerous manner, police report, and so due to the risk to safety for other drivers on the road, police did not continue the pursuit.

Over the following two hours, the suspect vehicle continued efforts to provoke the RCMP into a pursuit, driving aggressively and putting the public at risk.

RCMP co-ordinated with Calgary and Strathmore law enforcement to attempt to contain the vehicle, and during this time the vehicle unsuccessfully attempted to ram a police vehicle, and sideswiped an civilian vehicle. No one was injured during these incidents.

The vehicle entered the city of Calgary at approximately 10 p.m., at which point police were able to disable it and apprehend its occupants, including a youth who cannot be named. Scott Stimson of Siksika Nation was identified as the driver of the stolen vehicle. He was wanted on outstanding warrants, and is now facing numerous new charges as a result of this incident, including flight from police, dangerous driving, impaired driving, disqualified driving, assault with a weapon on a police officer, resisting arrest, possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000, failure to comply with a court order, failure to remain at the scene of an accident, and failing to comply with a weapons prohibition order.

Whitecourt

RCMP arrested two after a bear spray robbery — but are looking for public assistance to identify additional suspects.

Law enforcement responded to the robbery at 9:45 p.m. on May 6, after three men attempted to steal liquor from the Pine Plaza Liquor Store in Whitecourt. When a store staff member exited the store in an attempt to get a licence plate number from the suspects’ vehicle, she was confronted and sprayed with bear spray.

The three suspects stole one bottle of alcohol and fled in a darkcoloured SUV, which was last seen travelling toward Fox Creek.

Two of the suspects — a 27-yearold man, and 14-year-old male youth were located and arrested. The third suspect and SUV have not been located.

The victim was transported to the Whitecourt Hospital by ambulance to be decontaminated and has since been released to recuperate.

Okotoks

A two-vehicle collision on May 6 has led to one death in Okotoks.

Police responded to the collision after 1 a.m., when a black Mercedes Benz was travelling southbound and struck a yellow Toyota FJ Cruiser. The driver of the Toyota died at the scene. RCMP continue to investigate the incident, and speed and alcohol are believed to be factors.

The driver of the Mercedes suffered non life-threatening injuries and was treated in hospital. No charges have been laid at this time.
