Southern Alberta Summer Games regional directors for Medicine Hat and Cypress County were out taking in the local pickleball action Tuesday morning at the Strathcona Centre to spread the word about the importance of the annual games, and to try to entice local seniors to sign up to represent their home communities at the SASG.

“We want get the word out and have everyone be aware the summer games is going on, and they can come and join our team in Brooks,” said Medicine Hat regional director Jenny Steiner. “Medicine Hat usually sends a pretty big team. In the past, we have had about 250 participants. This year I am hoping for 300 or more. That would be awesome.”

“This year there is 21 different sports to take part in this year, and you can talk part in up to five events,” added Cypress County regional director Matt Vandersloot. “This is the longest running organized sport event in western Canada, going for the past 48 years. It’s really kind of targeted to bring communities together across the southern Alberta region at a grassroots level.”

The games take place from July 5-8 at Brooks and the County of Newell. Registration fees for the SASG are $15 per person in Cypress County and $20 per person in Medicine Hat. Forms can be turned in at Cypress County Dunmore office for county residents and at the Family Leisure Centre for Medicine Hat residents. Deadline to register is June 1.
