Two dozen medals for Salta gymnasts in Okotoks
Salta Gymnastics Club sent athlete after athlete to the podium in Okotoks this past weekend.
At the Mountain Magic Invitational, a total of 19 Salta gymnasts won a combined 24 medals.
In Level 6, Hannah Round wound up third overall with a third-place uneven bar score of 9.100 her best on an impressively consistent performance. The score itself was actually her lowest among four events, and she finished fourth, fifth and sixth in the other three.
Olivia Chenard and Lili Moriarty traded first-place apparatus wins in their Level 4 junior division, leaving no question they’d finish at the top of the podium.
The only question was in what order.
Chenard wound up with the all-around gold, less than a half-point ahead of Moriarty. Her event wins came on beam and floor, while Moriarty topped the vault and uneven bars.
Ria Thacker was third in Level 4 senior vault and finished seventh in the allaround.
Rachel Little topped the all-around in her 56-athlete Level 3 junior division, led by a pair of 9.600 efforts on beam and vault. The beam score was also golden, while her vault was worth second place. Teammate Kipp Stevens was third on floor and in the all-around in the same division, while Emma Flug’s 9.475 won the uneven bars.
In Level 3 senior it was Daniele Hollingworth putting up the biggest numbers from Medicine Hat. She was second on floor, third on vault and third all-around in a 58-athlete division. Salta’s Ainsley Vander Gaast was right behind Hollingworth in fourth allaround, with a third-place uneven bars result. Mariah Robson had the best vault score in the division, a huge 9.850.
Five of the top seven Level 2 all-around spots went to Salta gymnasts, led by Kristen Friesen in first place and Aubri Krassman in second. Friesen had the best vault, uneven bars and beam scores and was second on floor, while Krassman was second on vault and beam. Jenna Schubert was fifth, Jorja Lundquist sixth and Makayla Van Leeuwen seventh.
A new Salta team also did a demonstration gymnaestrada performance in Calgary on the weekend, combining dance and gymnastics.
