Two men suspected in a stabbing drove into a wall while attempting to flee from police.

Wetaskiwin RCMP were called just after midnight on July 13 to the common area of an apartment building after a 32-year-old man was stabbed, twice in the back. Upon arrival, police were told that the two suspects were in a vehicle. The suspects fled from police, striking the police vehicle and a parked civilian vehicle. The two police officers narrowly escaped being hit by the fleeing vehicle.

The suspect’s attempt to escape soon ended, as they drove the vehicle into the side of a nearby business.

Both driver and passenger were taken to hospital to be treated for injuries. The driver has been released from hospital but remains in police custody. The passenger remains in hospital where he is in stable condition.

The stabbing victim was also transporte­d to hospital and remains in stable condition. Police say the victim and accused were not known to each other. No charges have yet been formally laid.

Red Deer

Police are looking for two suspects after a man was sent to hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg on July 11.

RCMP believe the incident was a targeted shooting, and are looking for public assistance to identify the two men who dropped this man off at the hospital shortly before 8 p.m., and then drove away a newer model dark grey fourdoor Dodge Ram

The driver is described as caucasian with a darker complexion, approximat­ely 5’10”, 30 years old, short brown hair in a buzz cut style, wearing a dark coloured t-shirt, dark shorts and dark shoes.

The male passenger is described as Caucasian with a darker complexion, Approximat­ely 5’10” or 5’11” and 30 years old, short brown hair in a buzz cut style, stocky build, tattoos, Wearing a red tshirt, black basketball style shorts and white skate shoes

Red Deer RCMP were able to confirm that the victim and his assailant were known to each other but were not able to get details of the shooting or the identity or descriptio­n of the suspect from the victim.

In another unrelated incident, a 23-year-old Red Deer man faces charges after assaulting a community peace officer in downton Red Deer on July 12.

The officer was on bike patrol around 6 p.m., when he encountere­d the man and began to issue him a ticket. The suspect assaulted the officer and fled on foot. RCMP immediatel­y began to track the suspect, using police dogs, and he was soon located and taken into custody.

The officer suffered a minor injury to his face and did not require hospital treatment.

Elk Point

One man has been arrested after police responded to an erratic driver passing through a constructi­on zone on Highway 41, in the mid-afternoon on July 11. When responding, police also learned of another collision that occurred on Highway 29 and Range Road 73.

Upon arrival police learned that a head on collision had occurred involving the earlier reported erratic driver. The suspect had fled on foot into an adjacent field, and a search was conducted. The suspect was found, transporte­d to hospital with serious but nonlife threatenin­g injuries from the collision. The vehicle he was driving was previously reported stolen from Cold Lake.

The lone occupant of the vehicle that was hit head on was treated for serious but non life-threatenin­g injuries, and also transporte­d to hospital by EMS. A 37-yearold man is now facing charges of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, possession of stolen property, driving while suspended, and resisting arrest.
