A man who was joyriding a stolen ATV around the city was sentenced Thursday to 60 days in custody.

Brennan Osborne appeared by CCTV from the Medicine Hat Remand Centre to plead guilty to possessing stolen property and breaching his release conditions for an incident that stems back to July.

A local pipeline company reported to police on July 18 that an ATV had been stolen from them. Then on July 20, a Medicine Hat resident in the Flats observed two men with a broken ATV in an alleyway. The men ran away, but the resident was able to give police a description, and police confirmed that the abandoned ATV was the stolen one.

Police located the two men, with one fleeing and the second — Osborne — arrested. Video surveillance from a nearby gas station confirmed the description given by the resident.

Police found in Osborne’s possession a pocket knife, which was a breach of his conditions. He was also found in possession of four cellphones, one of which suspected by police to be stolen. By messaging contacts on this phone, police discovered it belonged to a Winnipeg woman, whose cellphone had been stolen while she was in Medicine Hat.

During this time, four videos also came in to phones, showing Osborne and another man joyriding around Medicine Hat on the stolen ATV, and further confirming their connection to the incident.

Osborne was given 23 days credit towards his sentence for the time he has spent already in custody.

Stolen property

It was a 60-day sentence for a local man after police observed him riding his bike at 4 a.m., pulling a stolen gaspowered pressure washer behind him.

Tim Guerette-Nymark pled guilty to possessing stolen property, having break and enter tools and other charges Thursday, with 33 days being credited towards his sentence for time already served in custody.

Police observed GueretteNymark in the early morning of July 13, and when questioned he said he was borrowing the washer from a friend to use, but refused to provide any further details to police that could confirm his story. When police arrested him, they found bolt cutters and a hatchet in his possession.

Later on in the day, a report was made to police about three storage lockers being broken into that night, and proof of ownership was provided for the washer.

Adding to the sentence was shoplifting from a local grocery store, as well as stealing alcohol from a liquor store, and a failure to appear in court.
