RCMP briefs from around Alberta
A 20-year-old Desmarais man has been charged with second-degree murder over the death of 21-year-old Joelle Cardinal.
Desmarais RCMP have been investigating since the early morning of July 31, when they received a report of a disturbance, and found Cardinal deceased in a residence.
Police located Dwayne Beauregard in a residence in Desmarais and arrested him on outstanding warrants originating from another police agency without incident on the night of August 1. He was formally arrested for the murder of Joelle Cardinal the following day.
The victim and accused were known to one another, and there were several witnesses to the incident that lead to Cardinal’s death.
Androssan
Strathcona RCMP are looking for suspects after an armed robbery of cigarettes from a semi, at a gas station on August 2.
The incident occurred at 11 a.m., in the parking lot of an Esso Gas Station when a ma male suspect hiding in the cab of a semi tractor-trailer unit parked in the lot brandished a weapon and demanded the driver surrender his keys upon returning to his vehicle. The driver complied with the demands and was restrained by the suspect. A large quantity of cigarettes were stolen out of the attached trailer unit.
The victim was not injured. Police believe that the crime required more than one person and the use of a semitrailer.

Red Deer
Red Deer RCMP continue to investigate a suspicious package that was found at approximately 4:30 p.m. Tuesday on 49 Avenue.
The device lead to the area being cordoned off to the public, with RCMP evacuating neighbouring businesses as a safety precaution.
The RCMP Explosive Device Unit believe that the item was likely a homemade explosive device and neutralized it without incident at approximately 9 p.m.
Drumheller
Drumheller RCMP, fire and EMS attended a three-vehicle collision on Highway 9, approximately one kilometre east of the Highway 56 and 27 intersection shortly after 7 a.m. on Aug. 2., where thick fog in the area resulted in extremely poor visibility.
Police investigation revealed a westbound pickup truck attempted to pass a westbound SUV when it met and side-swiped an eastbound tractor trailer. The pickup truck rolled before coming to an upright position in the ditch. The SUV received minor damage from debris, and the tractor trailer was severely damaged.
The driver of the tractor trailer sustained minor soft tissue injuries, while the driver of the pickup truck sustained severe but non-life threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by ground ambulance. The driver of the SUV was not injured.
The police investigation is continuing and Provincial charges are being considered against the driver of the pickup truck.
Okotoks
RCMP have recovered both stolen guns and property on a rural property in the municipal district of Foothills.
Okotoks RCMP were assisting Calgary Police Service, who had followed a stolen vehicle to this property, and once on the scene police located a number of items that had been reported stolen.
After obtaining a search warrant, police seized numerous vehicles, alongside a Winchester shotgun, remington semi-automatic rifle, handgun, and additional firearms.
The value of the total goods seized is well in excess of $100,000. A 30-yearold woman was arrested at the scene and faces multiple charges.
Spirit River
Search efforts continue along the Smokey River for a 15-year-old man who was caught in the undercurrent and pulled below the water surface on July 28.
Spirit River RCMP were assisted by members of the E Division Underwater Recovery Team (URT) from British Columbia on July 31, with URT members searching all probable areas using sonar and physical dives along the river. The URT has since concluded their search and river boat patrols will continue along the river from the site of the disappearance.
