Daffodil Project to plant three new sites in Sept.

-

The Daffodil Project has permits for three planting sites this fall and you are invited to participate.

The first planting day will be Sept. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to about 4 p.m. at the Medicine Hat College sign accessed near the Cultural Centre. The plan is to plant 10,000 bulbs that day.

It is a wonderful opportunity to put an office team together and sign up to plant for an hour or two. If you belong to a club or organization, it is a great team building exercise too. The Daffodil Project will Tweet pictures of participating teams and post photos on its website.

On Sept. 30 planting will take place between the Trans-Canada Highway and Trans-Canada Way near Humpty’s Restaurant from 9:30 a.m. to about 11:30 a.m. This will be a “test site” and only 2,500 bulbs will be planted that day.

On Oct. 14 planting will take place in the triangular area between where the Trans-Canada Highway and TransCanada Way meet near Ralph’s Steakhouse. This is another “test site” and only 2,500 bulbs will be planted that day, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Please email The Daffodil Project indicating your desire to help plant daffodil bulbs on one or more of those days.

Contributing to the project is a great way to mark Canada's 150th birthday. A donation of $150 buys about 700 bulbs. The Daffodil Project depend entirely on donations for the bulbs. Every cent donated goes to purchase bulbs. Donate once and see the bulbs emerge every spring year after year.

The Daffodil Project has a goal of seeing a million bulbs planted by 2025 along the Trans-Canada Highway from Redcliff to Dunmore, about 10 kilometres. The purpose is simply to beautify the environment each spring.

This will be the third planting season.

Donations for bulbs can be made by depositing into the project's trust account at ATB Financial with this number: 07329-00410789600. Email a copy of your bank deposit slip for acknowledgment of the donation with your name recorded on the website. Click on "financial transparency" for those details. A donation can also be made in memory of a loved one.

Email a deposit slip and/or register to help plant bulbs.
