Thousands flock to home and leisure show

-

The Medicine Hat and District Chamber of Commerce held its annual Great West Home and Leisure Show this weekend, bringing thousands of Hatters to the Cypress Centre to check out what businesses had to offer.

The event ran from Friday to Sunday, with hundreds of businesses setting up shop at the Stampede Grounds to engage with Hatters and people from around Medicine Hat.

“I think we’ll get 8-9,000 people over the whole weekend,” said trade show manager Paula Stodalka. “We hold this as a one-stop shop, for consumers to come out and have everything they could want under one roof.”

The Chamber has held the event for more than 40 years, as a way for businesses and consumers to meet face to face.

“We’ve been doing this for a while now, and we do it to help businesses meet people, and to get their brand out there a little more,” she said. “It also provides an opportunity for the general public to come and talk to some businesses and see what they have to offer.”

Stodalka says the event has become tradition for many Hatters and Hat businesses.

“I’ve been doing this for a little while now, and I know there’s a lot of businesses that come every year,” she said. “I know the businesses look forward to seeing a lot of familiar faces at every show they go to. I think this is a really good event for both sides.”
