A stage performance that gives the audience a say in how the story plays out is coming to Medicine Hat in February.

The event takes place Feb. 16, 7: 30 p.m. at Connaught School, and admission is free.

In this production David Diamond with Inter-Act Theatre will explore what is an appropriate response to indigenous people after the truth and reconciliation process.

“We’ve heard the truth and now it’s time for reconciliation,” said Kandee Corbett, one of the organizers.

It is not as simple as “just get over it.” We need to learn practical ways to change and make our country better and help bring about healing, said Corbett.

The Inter-Act Theatre actors will tell the story of an indigenous boy adopted by a white couple. While at university he makes the journey home and talks about his desire to explore his indigenous roots and culture. His adopted mother is not keen on the idea, said Corbett.

At that point in the play, members of the audience will have the option of becoming part of the performance. They can lead the story in a direction they would like to see and play out, said Corbett. The audience sees a problem and then explores what we as a society need to change now.

The target audience is ideally adults from diverse backgrounds and cultures including those working or involved in human services, said Corbett.
