Rollover on Trans-Canada sends two to hospital

-

A single vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway Sunday sent two people to hospital with minor injuries.

Medicine Hat police report that they and other emergency services responded to the collision on the westbound lane of the highway at the Box Springs overpass at 1 p.m. on Jan. 21.

A single car, while traveling westbound on the highway lost control, struck a guard rail, and rolled on to its passenger side. Both the driver and the lone passenger of the vehicle were transported to the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital with minor injuries. The investigation is still ongoing but it’s believed that icy road conditions may have contributed to the collision. The total value of the damages is estimated at $10,000.

Threat arrest

One man was arrested on January 20, after Medicine Hat police received a complaint about threats that were received by the Medicine Hat News on the same day.

Police say the communication received suggests that the writer was angry and upset and the messaging was not directed to a specific person or organization, and can “be best described as general comments regarding the writer’s feelings and beliefs.”

As a result of the investigation, 25-yearold Shane Merkl of Medicine Hat has been charged with utter threats, and three counts of public mischief. Merkl was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in provincial court on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
