Messam a Rider

-

REGINA Jerome Messam is back with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The native of Brampton, Ont., made the move official Wednesday via social media.

“Thank you @sskroughriders @cflsuperagent JO John Murphy & Chris Jones for another opportunity at greatness,” the burly running back tweeted. “Excited to be back in #Riderville! #RiderNation #isitjuneyet.”

The 32-year-old spent parts of two seasons (2014-15) with the Riders, rushing for a combined 1,208 yards and three TDs on 205 carries. Saskatchewan traded Messam to the Calgary Stampeders on Oct. 14, 2015.

Over two seasons with Calgary, Messam rushed for 2,214 yards and helped the Stampeders make consecutive Grey Cup appearances. But last week, president/GM John Hufnagel said he told the sixfoot-three, 255-pound Messam to test the free-agent market.

Saskatchewan also signed Canadian free-agent linebacker Sam Hurl. The six-footone, 234-pound Hurl had 65 tackles, one sack, one interception and a forced fumble in 18 games last season with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Saskatchewan selected the Calgary native in the second round, 12th overall, of the 2012 CFL draft. Hurl spent three seasons with the Riders before joining the Bombers in February, 2015.

The Riders also signed offensive lineman Travis Bond later in the day.

He was named a West Division and CFL All-Star in 2016.
