Saturday was a night hundreds of Hatters had marked down on their calendars.

The night was the third annual Alberta Food and Beverage Expo, an event that puts local businesses in the spotlight.

“There’s usually about 100 businesses from Medicine Hat and the surrounding area at the show,” said Preston Scholz, with ATB Financial. “It’s a great night for businesses to sample their products, their drinks, their food or whatever else they offer.”

The event ran for the third consecutive year at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede’s Cypress Centre. Scholz says everyone at the event is able to take something from it.

“It’s a huge win-win for everyone,” he said. “Businesses are able to showcase their product, vendors can talk to people they may not have met and people can come in and try some products out that they may have heard of, but have not gone out to try yet.”

One of the many local businesses on display was Smoothie Bacon Dogs, a hot dog and smoothie store based in Crescent Heights.

“For Smoothie Bacon Dogs, we buy local, support local and do everything local, so this way we get to see all of the locals and give back to our community,” said owner Noel Zawadiuk. “People are loving the samples and everyone seems to be having a good time here tonight.”
