Renegades no longer perfect thanks to Devils

-

The roller coaster went skyward for the junior B Sun Devils Saturday.

At the Kinplex, the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League club handed the Red Deer Renegades their first loss in the Tier 2 South Conference, a come-from-behind 15-13 decision that showed how tough the Devils are on home floor.

Izaak Loran and captain Damon Phillips scored in a 34-second span late in the third period to break a 13-13 tie, part of a seven-goal final frame onslaught. Zach Wilson had three goals in the comeback, Aidan McLean and Daniel Drefs had hat tricks too and Medicine Hat improved to 56 and snapped a two-game losing skid.

Nick Scott replied with four for the Renegades, who fell to 8-1.

The Sun Devils remain at home this weekend, hosting the Calgary Sabrecats Saturday (6:30 p.m.) and the Strathmore Venom Sunday (3:30 p.m.). Both teams have sub-.500 records.

Peewee

Medicine Hat’s two peewee teams squared off Saturday at the Kinplex, with the result a close game which game down to the final minutes.

Sun Devils No. 2 earned the 6-4 win, getting thirdperiod goals from Austin Watts, Wyatt Bower and Madden Kelly to come from behind and stay unbeaten in Southern Alberta Lacrosse Association play.

Torin thickson, Baker Thompson and Josh Evaschesen had given the No. 1 side a first-period lead, but the No. 2 squad slowly picked away at it with goals from Hudson Gainer late in the first, then Watts and Jack Henry in the second.

Novice

The Sun Devils No. 1 novice team beat the Crowsnest Pass Ravens 7-1 Saturday.

Nate Imes had three goals, Breton Villemaire two and both Jake Hogg and Jaydalyn Harpell-Yates one apiece.

Sun Devils No. 2 beat the Ravens 12-1 with four goals each from Logan Neuls and Torren Zentner, two from Beckett Davis and one each from Nate Orr and Trey Plaksey.

The two Hat teams were scheduled to play each other as well Saturday, but no score was reported to the league website by press time.
