Sport and event council invites groups to meeting

-

It takes a lot of work behind the scenes to run a big event, and similarly to get a group going that hopes to help local sport and event organizations do just that.

The Medicine Hat Sport and Event Council will hold what it’s calling a stakeholder meeting Tuesday, Nov. 6, 7 p.m. at Medicine Hat College and is putting out the word in hopes of a big turnout from area groups.

It’s not all the council has been up to after being formed a year ago, and there are lots of plans for what else it can accomplish.

“There’s definitely some bigger ideas, it’s a long time coming,” said Kara Brake, the sport and event coordinator for MHSEC. “We’ve got a lot of things planned including trying to get groups to collaborate and work together, talk to each other

“Part of that is this first stakeholder meeting, bringing them all together.”

Brake has contacted dozens of groups she’d like to see at the Nov. 6 meeting but hopes others she hasn’t even heard of before reach out and attend. Any groups interested can RSVP through EventBrite.ca by searching for MHSEC.

The meeting is set up to be a starting point for developing tools such as shared event calendars, creating bid plans and networking between groups that might share common challenges.

While minor sporting associations are the most obvious target audience, groups such as JazzFest are also on the radar.

“We’ve talked to some (groups) and they’ve been really excited about working with us.” said Brake.
