Olson putting in the work to succeed

- Kristina Segall

The Alberta Sport Development Centre (ASDC) – Southeast believes that by working together as athletes, coaches, parents, and organizations, we can create the best athletes in our province. The main purpose of the ASDC network is to coordinate and enhance services available to Alberta's emerging athletes and coaches.

In todays article, I will be highlighting one of the talented members of our Athlete Enhancement Program, Brendan Olson. Brendan is a local hockey player who plays for the SEAC Midget 15 team. The past two generations of his family have played hockey and his love for hockey continues on through his family traditions. He has been playing hockey since he was five, and now as a 15-year-old, he has big dreams to chase.

As a goalie, Brendan loves to watch NHL goalies on the ice and how they react and respond to all the shots delivered their way. He joined the Athlete Enhancement Program to enhance his sport performance, to ultimately achieve his goal of playing at a higher level. His aspirations are to play in the NCAA, U Sports or Europe. He currently trains and competes six days a week. It’s very common for him to train twice a day, on and off the ice.

He attends our two early morning strength and conditioning sessions before school starts on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30am, waking up at 5:45am to prepare for the day. He also participates in our mental skills and nutritional sessions. Brendan is committed to putting in the extra work to excel as a goalie and to reach the next level of competition.

He also enjoys competing in the 800m and 1500m track events representing Eagle Butte High School. When asked what his does in his down time or on his one day off a week, he said sports. Sports are his passion and his hard work ethic shines through everything he does. He battles hard on and off the ice. He is an asset to the Alberta Sport Development Centre, and we can’t wait to see him crush his goals, with his determination, commitment and inspiring work ethic. It is an absolute pleasure to work with athletes like Brendan, who are committed to working hard to pursue their goals.
