Speed dating event returns on Feb. 14
The Hearts on Fire Connections Company is holding its annual Valentine’s Day speed dating Feb. 14 from 7-9 p.m. at Dayzoff Pub.
The event will be focused on people in the 30-50 year old range and will put them through a series of five minute dates to see if they can make a connection on Valentine’s Day.
“Due to popular demand we’re going with that 30-50 age range for this year’s speed dating event,” said organizer Robin Davison. “We’ve got some fun games planned and we’re sponsored by McBride’s Bakery and Hemp Town Rock again.
“We’ll also have fun snacks and prizes for people to eat and win throughout the night.”
Speed dating is a series of small dates over the span of a couple hours — with people filling out a sheet with names of people they felt a connection with. If two people have a mutual connection Davison exchanges their information for them.
“I’m selling tickets until we have an even amount of men and women — after that people will be put on a waiting list for our next event,” she said. “Each date lasts about five or 10 minutes, depending on how many people are there, and there’s icebreakers throughout the night to help people get talking.
“We have personal bingo, an intermission partway through and then the card people fill out at the end is confidential — if there’s matches then people exchange information.”
Tickets for the event are $20 if purchased online or $25 at the door. Davison says people are encouraged to bring a friend if they like and that people should just relax and have fun.
“Just try and loosen up and have a good time,” she said. “People can bring a friend and I think they should just come into this with an open mind.”
