Safe family adventure awaits at Police Point
The Medicine Hat Interpretive Program has launched new summer programs for Hat families to enjoy.
The programming started Aug. 1 and is free to take participate in. The group is offering a Bug Safari, a Pond/Wetland Adventure and an Indigenous History Tour. Park Interpreter Kara Karst broke down each program for the News.
Bug Safari
“Someone will guide you and your family around the park to collect bugs, look at them, identify them and talk about the importance of the bugs,” she said. “It’s important that people are gentle with the bugs and not hurt them, because they’re important to the environment.”
Indigenous Tour
“This is a guided tour around the park where we’ve picked out key elements, and spoken to people with a lot of Indigenous knowledge to create a tour,” she said. “It will show specific plants, how the river was significant and how Police Point Park has been important to Indigenous to people.”
Wetlands Adventure
“This one is actually happening at Kin Coulee,” said Karst. “We’ll be taking samples out of the pond to see what critters are living in there right now.
“There’s a lot to learn when looking at these ecosystems.”
There are no size limitations to the programs, but organizers ask that people only come with family or friends they are not distancing from.
People are asked to call in at least a day or two in advance to book one of the programs with someone at Police Point Park. The number is 403-529-6225.
