“Les Miserables” director Tom Hooper went back to the British mega-musical well for his big-screen adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s tuneful adaptation of poems by T.S.Eliot, for which Hooper also co-wrote the screenplay. Judi Dench leads the starry ensemble in the role of Old Deuteronomy; Taylor Swift, who scored a Golden Globe nod for co-writing the new song “Beautiful Ghosts,” has a featured role. Jennifer Hudson, Ian McKellen, James Corden, Idris Elba, Rebel Wilson and ballet star Francesca Hayward also star.

After scoring with “Pulp Fiction,” Quentin Tarantino earned another dose of acclaim for directing this 1997 adaptation of an Elmore Leonard story. Pam Grier, an icon of 1970s action movies, plays a smuggler who needs help to stay alive. Her boss (Samuel L. Jackson) wants her dead, so she tries to eliminate him first, assisted by a bail bondsman (Robert Forster). Bridget Fonda and Michael Keaton also star.
Riddled With Deceit: A Martha’s Vineyard Mystery

Former detective Jeff Jackson (Jesse Metcalfe) is summoned from retirement to oversee the transport of some nearly priceless emeralds to their rightful owner, a good friend of Zee Madeiras (Sarah Lind). According to legend, the emeralds are cursed, and since they resurfaced from the black market, they already nearly have been purloined once. Sadly, it’s not long before the gems go missing again and tragedy strikes at the tony inn on Martha’s Vineyard where they are to be delivered. Sunita Prasad also stars in this 2020 mystery.
