Metcalf emerges as deep threat in Seattle

- BY GEORGE DICKIE

In the category of emerging NFL superstars, we present for your consideration DK Metcalf. Indeed, in their second-year wide receiver, the Seattle Seahawks have an exciting talent and a bona fide deep threat in the midst of a historic season. Pairing with Tyler Lockett to give Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson a receiving tandem designed to give opposing secondaries nightmares, the 22-year-old son of former NFL guard Terrence Metcalf is making the rest of the league sit up and take notice. Through seven games, the Ole Miss product was among the league leaders in receiving yards with 680, to along with 36 receptions (for a yards-per-catch average of 18.9) and seven touchdowns. At this writing, the Seahawks held the best record in the NFC at 6-1 with one of the best offenses in the game. And he and Lockett couldn’t be more different. At 6 feet 4 inches and 230 pounds, Metcalf is the type of chiseled specimen who can outrun and outleap opposing defensive backs and create match-up problems. Contrast that with the 5-feet-9-inch Lockett’s savvy route running and ability to make one-handed catches in traffic and you have two receivers whose abilities complement each other’s and give quarterback Wilson a pair of formidable weapons. Metcalf, Lockett, Wilson and the rest of the NFC West-leading Seahawks can be seen in action Monday, Nov. 30, when they invade the home turf of the NFC East-leading Philadelphia Eagles in a game airing on ESPN’s Monday Night Football.
