Funny Boy 8 p.m. on % Canada’s entry for Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards, Deepa Mehta’s 2020 adaptation of Shyam Selvadurai’s 1994 novel of the same title chronicles the coming of age of Arjie Chelvaratnam, a young boy in Sri Lanka who is becoming aware that he is gay. This personal journey plays out against the backdrop of increased tensions between the Tamil and Sinhalese people leading up to the Sri Lankan Civil War. Arush Nand plays Arjie as a child, with Brandon Ingram playing the character in his teen years.
Blue Bloods 8 p.m. on ) (85) Whoopi Goldberg returns to her recurring role as City Council Speaker Regina Thomas in the Season 11 premiere, “Triumph Over Trauma,” which explores the current issue concerning police brutality, especially in communities of color. It’s a topic that puts Regina at sharp odds with Frank (Tom Selleck) as the season opens. Elsewhere, Jamie (Will Estes) and his nephew, Joe Hill (Will Hochman), team up to find Danny and Baez (Donnie Wahlberg, Marisa Ramirez) after the latter pair go missing while searching for a killer.
