Supporting locally-owned businesses is more important than ever before. Even prior to the pandemic, we have all witnessed the mom and pop shops, as they are affectionally known as, shut their doors. In a world of one-stop online mega-stores, we have arrived at a time for us as consumers to step up and take stock of all our local businesses and do more than say we shop locally — we need to take action. When we support locally-owned businesses, we are supporting the community as a whole. Local businesses employ your friends, your neighbours, they employ the 16-year-old wanting to save for his first car. When we stimulate our local economy, non-profits see more donations, new jobs are created, local business owners invest further in their community and innovation takes hold. This sounds pretty good, right? This Christmas season, we are encouraging everyone to shop at a locally-owned business.
