Local musician dropping new album, ‘What I Need’
A local musician is getting ready to release her latest album.
Hatter Eileen Wotschell moved to the city 25 years ago and has been writing songs for 20. She says music has always been part of her life.
“Ever since I was little, even in school, music has always been there,” she said. “I started with church music when I was 13 and that led to other things.
“It’s been a long journey with a lot of learning along the way.”
Wotschell’s eighth studio album, ‘What I Need’, is set to release after Christmas and features a number of Christian Inspiration songs.
“It’s actually a double album,” she said. “The first album is the inspirational side of things — it’s the faith part of me.
“The second album is called ‘Variety’ and has country, Christmas, instrumentals and wedding music. It has a real variety on it.”
Wotschell says her faith has guided her through many parts of life, including her music career.
“The music is from the spiritual side of me,” she said. “I have a very strong faith in a greater power above us, and I believe he’s looking out after us all.”
Wothschell’s album was recorded at Absynthe Studio in the Hat and she gave a special thank you to Chris Streifel for their work together over the years.
“He has worked on all of my albums,” she said. “We just work so well together and the songs just come together once he’s started working on them.
“I’m really thankful for Chris and the work we do together.”
Wotschell released an album last winter and hasn’t been able to perform it much due to COVID-19. She says music inspiration comes at different times.
“I had some songs sitting after that album and got going on some more writing,” she said. “I don’t usually sit down and write, there’s usually more inspiration than that.
“Sometimes it’s a thought or an emotion, other times it’s a family experience or a song I hear that makes me feel something.”
