MHPS changes command with small ceremony

Medicine Hat Police Service officially swore in new Chief Mike Wordon in a small ceremony held at the station Monday morning.

Worden steps in to replace the outgoing Andy McGrogan, who spent 40 years serving the community of Medicine Hat with MHPS.

“I am honoured to take on the role of Chief of Police, joining the women and men who make up this incredibly professional and progressive organization,” Worden said in an MHPS release. “As this is a homecoming for me, after being away from the community for 32 years, I look forward to working with residents and the members of the police service, as I know together we can accomplish great things. I want to thank and congratulate Chief Andy McGrogan for his leadership and for over 40 years of service to this community.”

The release adds Worden was selected for his role by the Medicine Hat Police Commission following “an extensive national search which yielded several highly qualified candidates.”

Before joining MHPS, Worden spent 25 years as a member of the Calgary Police Service.

A larger ceremony for Worden’s swearing in is anticipated to take place once provincial restrictions on public gatherings are lifted.
