It didn’t take long for a lost friend to be reconnected with a couple in Scotland after a story in the News on Wednesday.

Jane and David Shields who live in the village of Falkland in Fife, Scotland were trying to find longtime friend Pat Cook and her sons Martin and Paul.

David and Pat’s husband Tom, who has passed away, used to work on a Canadian Pacific cargo ship together. Pat and Jane became close friends and had kept in contact for many years after the family moved to Medicine Hat.

Pat’s son, Paul Cook, says he was notified of the News story early on Wednesday morning. He said his mother has not been well recently.

Within a short time he’d reached out to Jane and David in Scotland by email and then there was a telephone call.

“I received a call from Dave and Jane almost immediately and spoke with them for a bit. I believe they are speaking with my mom at this moment,” said Paul in an email on Wednesday morning. “Thank you for your assistance in the case of the missing Scottish woman.”
