Into the Storm 5:30 p.m. on (STRZ1)
A sequel to the well-received 2002 TV movie “The Gathering Storm,” this equally compelling 2009 biographical drama is anchored by Brendan Gleeson’s Emmy-winning performance as Winston Churchill, focusing on his days in office as British prime minister during World War II. Howard Goodall also received an Emmy for his stirring musical score; also nominated were supporting actors Janet McTeer (as Clementine Churchill) and Len Cariou (as U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt).
Whose Line Is It Anyway? 6 p.m. on AE
Frequent guest star Greg Proops joins series regulars Ryan Stiles, Wayne Brady and Colin Mochrie for his seventh appearance on this freewheeling comedy show, which qualifies as a game show only in the loosest sense. Under the watchful eye of host Aisha Tyler, the players use their combined skills in a series of improv games prompted by random ideas from the studio audience. After each round, Tyler assigns points based pretty much on her whim.
The Sister 7 p.m. on (TMN1); 9 p.m. on W
“Luther” series creator Neil Cross adapted his own novel “Burial” for this creepy four-part thriller, which stars Russell Tovey (“Flesh and Blood”) as Nathan Redmond, an affable Everyman type who has been forced to conceal a dark secret. His quiet life threatens to implode completely, however, when an unwelcome face from his past knocks on his door one rainy evening. Bertie Carvel (“Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell”), Amrita Acharia, Nina Toussaint-White, Paul Bazely and Amanda Root also are featured.
