City praises COVID efforts in the community
Municipal director emergency management Merrick Brown addresses council on Monday night. Brown says reopening city facilities from pandemic closure may be slower than the public may want as provincial health restrictions are based on hospitalization rates for COVID-19. Brown also lauded the local effort to bring down active case totals.
“I’d give an ‘A’,” he said, citing cases near 120 in early December had fallen to 16 on Monday. “As soon as we brought in our own face covering bylaw and the province followed (shortly with restrictions,) we saw compliance. I knew we could do it and we did.”
He did say the city had “robust plans” enacted in 2020, and preparations for the spring construction season have begun. Preparations for any potential flooding shouldn’t be affected.
