The Southern Alberta Humane Society is staying busy in 2021.

The animal welfare organization is looking to pay down bills, and is hosting a Valentine’s Day draw.

The draw is for a $700 basket, with tickets going for $10 each.

“We only printed 200 tickets for this,” said board member De Seaton. “There aren’t many left.

“This one was sponsored by Wright’s Jewellery, Gold Dust Jewellery and South County Co-op Liquor.”

The basket contains a gold bracelet, earrings, gold watch and a bunch of alcohol.

“There’s even chocolate included in the basket — what else could a person want for Valentine’s Day?”

The draw is at 4 p.m. on Feb. 13. Tickets are available at Posh Wash in Crescent Heights or on SAHS’s website, www.southernalbertahumanesociety.com. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 587-253-4203.

Mascot

A new year also means a new mascot for SAHS, and the organization will be changing things up for 2021’s competition.

Last year’s mascot, Rubble, did a great job but now will step aside so other pets can represent SAHS.

“This year we’re going to have a dog winner, cat winner and a small animal winner,” said Seaton. “All of the details are on our Facebook page.

“Once your animal gets put on our website, people can vote for them.”

Animals can be submitted until Feb. 28. Winners will be announced March 1.

“Whenever we’re able to get out in public again, our mascots can come to events with us,” said Seaton.
