College hosting online meet with community leaders
Medicine Hat College will virtually host local leaders this morning to talk regional vitality.
The 90-min conversation begins at 9 a.m. There are limited tickets available and can be found on eventbrite.ca.
Regional vitality planning project manager Christie Wilson says the meeting will play host to a number of important conversations.
“This is going to be around 100 community members from southeast Alberta coming together to have a collective conversation about regional vitality and advocating for it,” she said. “This builds on the work we have been doing all winter with civic, economic, community members and educational partners to talk about, ‘Hey, what does regional vitality look like and how do we build a plan around that? How can we learn and collaborate to make it happen?’
“At the summit we want to identify tactics that will flesh out the plan, and to also build connections. We had hoped for an in-person event so we could introduce people from all over the region to each other.
“We hope to still build these connections, even if it’s virtually.”
Anyone wishing to scoop up one of the last few tickets will need a Zoom account and internet access.
Wilson says the event is perfect for those interested in the region.
“It could be any member of the community, a community leader, someone from a municipality — we’re looking to engage a grassroots population of people to bring this to life.”
Open house
Medicine Hat College is holding an open house on March 3.
The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will allow students to explore new programs and to speak to co-ordinators, faculty and students.
MHC student recruiter Alison Pfeifer says an advantage the community gets when attending the open house is the chance to talk directly with faculty and current students.
“Hearing information about our programs, and life at the college, directly from current students and our instructors provides an authentic perspective of what they can expect at MHC,” says Pfeifer. “We’ve broken the sessions down into panels, individual studies, and general information. Whether you know what you want to pursue or are just starting the process we have the information you need.”
