South Eastern Alberta Archaeological Society hosting virtual presentation on the history of pandemics
If you’ve ever wondered about the history of pandemics, the South Eastern Alberta Archaeological Society has an event planned to provide some fascinating information.
At the organization’s meeting on Feb. 24 the public is invited to listen online to guest speaker Dr. Kevin McGeough of the University of Lethbridge who will speak on “pandemics of the ancient world.”
McGeough will specifically focus on one which occurred in the Late Bronze Age in Turkey and another in Classical Greece during the Peloponnesian War. He will discuss how these societies responded and the impact the pandemics had. It is an opportunity to see how decisions made many years ago have shaped us.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions the South Eastern Alberta
Archaeological Society is holding virtual meetings. On Feb. 24 prior to the special guest speaker’s presentation, there will be an annual general meeting at 7 p.m., followed by McGeough’s presentation at 8 p.m.
If you are not a member but are curious about the speaker’s topic and the organization, contact Bruce Shepard at 403-527-5440 or at shepardb@ telus.net to register.
Shepard says there are no fees to join the presentation electronically but they’d love to encourage new memberships as well.
Current members will automatically be sent a link to participate on Feb. 24.
If you would like to join the organization contact secretary-treasurer Randy Stotz at firstname.lastname@example.org or call him at 403-526-0190. A membership costs $10.00 per adult and $15.00 for a family.
