Airport will continue to be an engine for growth

- Marco Jansen Aviation industry employee and municipal election candidate for city councillor

Dear editor,

Like so many others, I was dismayed when WestJet announced the temporary suspension of scheduled service to Medicine Hat.

There is some comfort to be had in that there is not a significant impact on the airport’s operations and growth. The flight school is very busy, HALO and MEDEVAC flights are still going, and all other commercial, private and military flying is continuing. The city, through the Invest Medicine Hat program, is continuing with commercial development of the YXH Gateway project. Like a winter storm that grounds flights for a little while, this too will pass, and the airport will continue to be an important engine for growth and prosperity for years to come.
