“Movie: The Big Sick”

Michael Showalter (“The Baxter,” “Hello, My Name Is Doris”) directed this 2017 comedy about a Pakistaniborn comedian (Kumail Nanjiani, “Silicon Valley”) who meets and falls in love with a grad student (Zoe Kazan, “The Plot Against America”), then finds himself at loggerheads with her parents when she contracts a mysterious illness. Holly Hunter, Ray Romano and Aidy Bryant also star.
