Win for Hell’s Basement adding to excitement of FIFTH ANNIVERSARY

- MEDICINE HAT NEWS

While it’s not quite its fifth birthday yet, Hell’s Basement Brewery has found reason to celebrate early this year.

For the first time in its history, Hell’s Basement will bring home the Best Brewery Award, as voted by the people of Medicine Hat.

“It was definitely a nice surprise,” said founder Mike Patriquin. “It’s really nice to have some positive energy, given the state of the world right now. This has definitely put some pep in our step.”

Patriquin says offering something different helps the brewery stand out.

“I think we have a bit of a unique atmosphere,” he said. “We’re familyfriendly and pet-friendly.

“I think we offer a really chill atmosphere people gravitate towards – everyone is welcome.”

Hell’s Basement was able to set up delivery service, which allowed for a bit of diversification during the pandemic. “I know other places had delivery as well, but it really let us get out and talk to our customers,” he said. “We received so much support through this and we’re really appreciated.”

Since Hell’s Basement and Medicine Hat Brewing Company are both turning five this year, Patriquin says there are big plans in the works.

“We don’t know exactly what we’re going to be able to do,” he said. “I could see us making beer together to celebrate, and I hope we can hold some events this summer, too.”

Patriquin says the brewery is thankful for the support.

“Thanks to all of the people in Medicine Hat who voted and continue to support us.”
