Local homebuilders celebrate annual awards for first time under BILD banner

Local homebuilders celebrated their annual awards on Friday night for the first time under the BILD banner.

Formerly known as the Canadian Homebuilders Association, the group rejoined their related provincial association this winter. That group rebranded itself with the new name after amalgamating with the Urban Design Institute in 2017, while local wing chose more independence and an alignment with the Chamber of Commerce.

At the Medicine Hat annual general meeting, the membership voted to rejoin its provincial counterpart.

“We are excited to continue the great advocacy work we started as CHBA, and involve more developers in our organization as we continue to grow and evolve,” said president Jackie Taylor.

Coulee Ridge was named development of the year at the awards ceremony held at the Beveridge Event Centre, Lacey Homes the homebuilder of the year and Brost Developments the top renovator.

Those were among 32 categories for construction design, trades, service providers and suppliers in the local association. Lacey Homes also took home the safety award, Parade of Homes community choice award, and best social media presence, among several based on single family homes completed in a range of categories based on pricing.

They secured awards for best new home in the $500,000 price range, and best multi-family project priced at less than $300,000.

The Nickel Group was the best in the higher priced multifamily class.

Brost was greenest builder and earned awards for best offering priced in the $400,000 and $600,000 price ranges, as well two awards for renovations in middle price ranges ($50,000 to $200,000).

Kenco Construction earned two awards for estate homes completed above $700,000 and $900,000.

Jade Homes earned the best single family residence priced below $400,000, and best kitchen among single-family offerings, while Hiebert Cabinets won best kitchen in an estatestyle-home.

Strongwood Construction earned best en suite.

Lacey Homes won the best small renovation and Jasper Homes won the largest budget category.

Large, small and structural suppliers of the year were Emco, Design Kitchens and Inland Concrete, respectively, while Advanced Energy Advisors was named top service provider.

Design Kitchens was also small trade of the year, with Concept Plumbing winning among larger trade companies.
