“House of the Dragon”
This new “Game of Thrones” prequel is set 200 years before the events of the Emmy-winning blockbuster and chronicles the beginning of House Targaryen’s fall, culminating in a civil war that became known as the “Dance of the Dragons.” Paddy Considine (“The Outsider”) stars as King Viserys Targaryen, with Matt Smith (“Doctor Who”) as his younger brother, Prince Daemon Targaryen, the presumptive heir to the Iron Throne.
“Movie: The Princess”
An intimate and immersive look at the life of Princess Diana, this 2021 documentary draws solely from contemporaneous archival audio and video footage to take audiences back to key events in Diana’s life as they happened, including their seemingly fairy-tale public courtship and wedding, the birth of their two sons, their bitter divorce, and Diana’s tragic and untimely death on Aug. 31, 1997.
“Movie: The Eyes of Tammy Faye”
Michael Showalter (“The Lovebirds”) directed this 2021 biographical drama, adapted from a successful 2000 documentary of the same title, with Jessica Chastain cast as televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker. The film chronicles how Bakker — with her preacher husband Jim Bakker (Andrew Garfield) — built the world’s largest religious broadcasting network (and glitzy theme park) before their fall from grace. Cherry Jones and Vincent D’Onofrio also star.
“Movie: Belfast”
Kenneth Branagh wrote and directed this 2021 coming-of-age drama about a boy’s (newcomer Jude Hill as Buddy) childhood in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1969.
The film examines the family’s struggles through the eyes of 9-year-old Buddy. Starring Jamie Dornan, Caitriona Balfe, Judi Dench, Lewis McAskie and Ciarán Hinds, the film won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Branagh.
