Rattlers women’s basketball splits final weekend of regular season

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers women’s basketball team picked up a win in their final weekend of action.

The Rattlers beat the Northweste­rn Polytechni­c Wolves 56-54 on Friday before falling 54-46 on Saturday to the NAIT Ooks.

Brynn Bremner had 16 points in Friday’s win, with Breanna O’Connor adding 12 points as well. In Saturday’s loss, Jaida Gold had 14 points.

The Rattlers men’s basketball team was also in action over the weekend, falling 88-68 to Northweste­rn on Friday and losing in overtime Saturday 84-83 to NAIT.

In Friday’s loss, Noah Neilsen, Fred Kabore and Cooper Ward each had 13 points. Against the Ooks on Saturday, Ward led the Rattlers’ offence with 30 points and 12 rebounds in the overtime loss. Jordan Biggar had 20 points as well.

Seasons for both the women (3-18) and men (4-17) have come to a close as they finished outside the ACAC playoff bubble.

Volleyball

MHC’s men’s and women’s volleyball teams were on the road against Northweste­rn and NAIT this weekend.

The men dropped both contests, falling in three sets (25-22, 25-21, 25-23) against the Wolves on Friday and three sets (25-18, 25-12, 25-20) to the Ooks on Saturday.

Nathan Chernik had 14 kills in Friday’s loss with Jordan McKee adding 11 of his own. On Saturday, McKee led the way again with nine kills.

The women’s volleyball team lost in three sets (25-22, 25-10, 28-26) Friday to the Wolves and went all the way against NAIT on Saturday, falling in five sets (25-19, 25-21, 23-25, 23-25, 15-13).

Males Kletzel and Cianna Chalack led the Rattlers with eight kills each in Friday’s loss. Campbell Bosch and Brooklyn Tkachuk led the way Saturday with nine kills each.

The men (4-15) and women (0-19) volleyball seasons have come to a close as they also finished outside the ACAC playoff bubble.

Hockey

The Rattlers women’s hockey team wraps up their regular season this weekend against the SAIT Trojans. They host the Trojans on Saturday at the Moose Rec Centre for a 7:45 p.m. contest.

Before that pair of games, the Rattlers are playing an exhibition game against the Medicine Hat Police Service. That exhibition game is Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Kinplex. There is no entrance fee or anyone interested in attending.
