Tickled Pink

That I am not as ticked off as most people who contribute or read this column. Cheers!

Ticked Off

When can we afford to live in this city again? Utilities are out of touch, taxes are nuts and yet we watch what our officials are talking about, things that don’t matter? What about capping your city salaries so we the taxpayer don’t have to cover that, so I can stop going to the food bank? We need somebody with a plan to do better!

On April 1, 38 million Canadians will get a 23% increase in the carbon tax. Meanwhile, 457 million other people (U.S. and Mexico) living on the same piece of land pay nothing. But our government tells us we’re altering the world’s climate by paying this carbon tax. That’s a good one.

Ticked Off

Not really ticked off. Just have a suggestion that you don’t print Arctic Circle comic. Save the ink. I am willing to bet most people don’t read and or enjoy it anyway. (Editor’s note: Sadly, comics page decisions are so far out of the newsroom’s hands, I don’t even know who to tell you to send this complaint to.)

Tickled Pink

I recently picked up a virus that got so bad in the middle of the night I had to visit the emergency ward at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. What a pleasant experience I had right from the lovely lady at check-in, to triage and attending nurses, right to the doctor. Everyone was so helpful and cheery running tests to figure out what was happening. Thank you so much for your excellent professional help. Hats off to the emergency ward staff!

The reality of the housing situation is that property cannot simultaneously be an investment and something that everybody owns. Unless

we’re taking about vacation homes, you only need one. Prices drop when there’s less demand. This crisis is only resolved by the decommodification of housing, and unfortunately there’s way too much money invested by the wealthy on both sides of the political spectrum to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Ticked Off

The rail crossing at the bottom of Dunmore Hill is a vehicle killer. Have you ever seen a railroad car cross there? The tracks should be taken out or the crossing improved.

Ticked Off

Anyone who thinks complimenting a positive demeanour and a healthy glow as being out of touch is not the kind of person who should be commenting in public. If you think women should hide their beauty, perhaps consider moving to Afghanistan where they are required to be covered and not allowed to go to school, or Saudi Arabia where they cannot legally drive. You’re the one that is out of touch, not the commentor.

Ticked Off

If socialists keep winning the battles. Welcome to a broke new world.

Ticked Off

Someone told me the $200 EV tax is good because “EVs are heavier than normal cars, so they’re harder on the road.” This has to be the biggest crock I’ve ever heard. You know what’s heavier than a normal car? A truck. You know, the thing nearly every person in the province is driving.

Tickled Pink

With the comment from March 5: “The NDP led this province for only four years (1 premier) and did a good job. Any problems this province has can be attributed to the nine-plus conservative governments, and yet many people would like to blame problems on the NDP.” This needs to be repeated again and again. Conservatives are so thin skinned, they had four years of competent, non-crazy government in this province, and they still can’t get over it.

At the demonstration at city hall recently. If you want to rally against Danielle Smith, go to one of her buildings in her riding as MLA. City hall is no place for these rallies.

Ticked Off

When people think mainstream media is all lies, remember these people are not allowed by their master to watch mainstream news. The only way they can get them back to reality is if you get a deprogrammer to unravel their brain. Not a very easy task.

Ticked Off

With mayor and council. Debating on agenda reviews when people can’t find places to live or afford groceries. Get real and work on real issues.

Ticked Off

Now that the City of Medicine Hat has been dealt the disappointing blow of having its applications for funding to the federal government’s Housing Accelerator Fund denied, it’s time for our local MLA and Premier Danielle Smith to step up and fulfill the primary responsibility of the Alberta Government: addressing housing needs. Despite housing falling squarely under provincial jurisdiction, there’s been a glaring lack of action. Once again, Danielle Smith and the UCP have failed to improve our community. Furthermore, where was our MP Glen Motz’s advocacy in Ottawa? What exactly is he being paid to do if not to fight for the interests of his constituents? It’s time for accountability and real leadership from those elected to represent us.

Ticked Off

That our provincial government cannot work with our federal government. We don’t want to acknowledge federal monies for new housing in Airdrie. We don’t want money to help fund additional medicines for diabetes and contraceptives. Just give us money to prop up our oil and gas industries. Smith might state these initiatives lack fairness and equity. These are exactly the characteristics she exhibits when dealing with the government chosen by Canadians.

Tickled Pink

By Mila baking cookies to raise money for the Root Cellar. I wish we had known about it so we could have supported the fund raiser. Good job and hope you keep that spirit of giving throughout your life.

Ticked Off

That the hospital does not have a cafeteria open during supper and weekends. Closed during COVID and never opened. Just another AHS money-saving technique. There are staff and families that need nourishment and it’s absolutely ridiculous that this is even allowed. Tim Hortons cannot be the only option!
