Small practice focuses on a more personal approach to veterinary medicine

-

A small practice with less than two years under its belt, Horizon Veterinary Services claims that they owe much of their success as 2024’s Best Veterinary Practice in Medicine Hat to that more focused scale.

“The big thing for us is that we’re like, right now we’re a smaller practice, just the two of us. And so I think people get a pretty good continuation of care,” said Dr. Layne Manson.

He expressed his surprise and elation at the support shown from the community.

Co-owner and follow veterinarian Dr. Clayton Brandt explained that with only two vets in the clinic, they can collaborate on cases well, and it’s likely an animal will be seeing she same team over and over, allowing them to catch details that may otherwise be missed.

“It’s a team effort,” said Brandt. “With us, and our staff here, but from an at-home standpoint. Because I always say, as much as we can do everything perfectly here, unfortunately, the client often has the hard part of doing all the medication and continuing care at home.”

Horizon is proud to be locally-owned and operated, something that can allow them some flexibility in approaching unique cases, and Brandt adds that he feels it can be comforting for pet owners when approaching them in regards to their animal’s health.

“I think that people appreciate seeing the same person again. I think that that’s probably one of the biggest things that some bigger practices have against them, they don’t keep the doctors the same,” said Brandt.

“We like to take our time with cases as best we can, and try to go into as much depth and detail as we can, and try not to rush through things too much,” said Manson. “We give people good, solid care that they appreciate.”
