Morgan’s Pizza wins for the seventh straight year

It’s not luck, Morgan’s Pizza is the Best of Medicine Hat’s top pizza for the seventh straight year.

Owner Morgan Schenkey is as surprised with the seventh nod as the Hat’s go-to pizza option as he was the first year and credits those who pick up a slice, or more, for their success.

“It makes me feel really good to know that our customers really do like what we’re making and that they’re happy to tell other people,” Schenkey said.

“Thank you to our customers, they’re the ones that get us there every year and thank you to our staff because they’re also the ones that get us there every year.”

Morgan’s Pizza offers Hatters a traditiona­l approach to pizza that leans more towards Greek than Italian and is made fresh daily with lessons learned from decades of pizza making in the Schenkey family.

“I’m second generation pizza maker, my dad always did it the hard way and he told me that that’s the right way to do it to make the food taste the best,” Schenkey said. “I pretty much just adopted that and continued on with why he did it.”

He says he was born and raised in pizza and loves everything there is to love about the circular creation of dough, tomato sauce, cheese and all of the desired toppings.

It’s his approach of fresh and local that Schenkey says has their oven firing on all cylinders and customers coming back for more.

“We do things the hard way, we know all of our products we try to make them up all fresh,” Schenkey said. “We do it the old fashioned way. Instead of just buying dough, we try to do sliced meats if we can, we try to do everything.

“The extra work is what makes it taste better.”
