Mother, daughter take the top two spots in real estate category

-

Knowing the market and knowing people is the key to success for Cathy Catalano and Carly Catalano-Morin.

They’re also familiar with each other.

The mother-daughter realtors at Maxwell Source 1 Realty individually took the top two spots in the 2024 Best Medicine Hat readers poll.

Catalano says the now four-yearold professional partnership has invigorated her — she can mentor her daughter and learn a few new tricks as well.

“We’re having a lot of fun,” said Cathy, a 20-year veteran in the local market. She placed first in voting for top individual realtor, while daughter Catalano-Morin was second.

The pairing has also allowed the formation of a family-to-family business relationship with clients, they said

“We do help a lot of people who are downsizing — whether that’s to an adult condo or to assisted living — and that’s real honour,” said Cathy Catalano.

“It’s not all we do, but that’s one area where we really take pride.”

It’s no secret that such moves — selling a home perhaps owned for decades — are not always the easiest, but can be made easier with open conversations and a low pressure approach.

Catalano said her team has a familiarity with most adult condos in the city, their offerings and amenities, to advise clients on their next step.

She can also provide some insight for those new to condo living, such as fees and owner rights, while Carly handles staging and marketing along with her own clients.

“We still want to make sure that people are getting as much as possible for their property,” she said.

Another secret of success, advertising in the Medicine Hat News and holding open houses, added Catalano.
