The AKC ac­cepts males at a height of 14 inches up to and in­clud­ing 18 at the top of the withers. No weight is ref­er­enced but pro­por­tions are im­por­tant: he should be slightly longer than tall.

Ac­tiv­ity level:

These dogs need reg­u­lar ex­er­cise to keep them both phys­i­cally fit and men­tally sound. Reg­u­lar walks and play­time are a min­i­mum; bet­ter yet, en­roll in some ca­nine sports.


To keep that gor­geous coat in good shape, weekly brush­ing is a must. He will shed sea­son­ally at least two times a year. Her­itage: Herd­ing This com­pact herd­ing dog was de­vel­oped in Cal­i­for­nia in the 1960s. Es­sen­tially, he’s a pint-sized ver­sion of the Aus­tralian Shep­herd.
