Dorval takes part in health/wellness challenge

West Island College: Students and staff presented a cheque for $21,875 to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation on March 14 at a special assembly. This year marks the 10th anniversar­y that the college has been raising funds for the JDRF through its annual walkathon. To date, the grand total raised is $215,000. Riverdale High: The Election/’80s dance Take Care was a great success. Spirit Week continues from March 21 to 23 with great activities in the cafeteria, including free hot chocolate for Bring Your Own Mug Friday. The theatre program invites you to attend the musical production Footloose, which takes place March 29, 30 and 31, at 7:30 p.m. in the Riverdale Auditorium, 5060 Sources Blvd. Tickets are $12 for seniors/students and $15 for adults. Dorval Elementary: All students were able to experience five funfilled days of swinging vines, rock climbing, rickety bridges, snaky ladders, zip lines, giant swings, spider’s webs, and other adventurou­s jungle elements. Thanks to all the parents who came out to volunteer for this event. DES is taking part in the 5/30 health and wellness challenge until April 11. Eat better, get more active, take care of yourself and get energized! Participan­ts are committed to achieving three goals; enjoy five or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day, do at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day and have a wellness goal. Macdonald High: Justin Trudeau visited Grade 9 and 10 students for a motivation­al speech about how to better your school and community. Leadership Camp was a lot of fun for our future leaders. The European trip was a wonderful learning experience for all. The St. Patrick’s Day parade was a great shenanigan. The Spring Fling Dance will be March 23; tickets are on sale. Lacrosse, football, badminton and rugby practices are ongoing. Chess tournament­s are being held, so sign up. Public speaking finals are March 23. Greendale Elementary: Thanks to the school nurse and all the H & S volunteers for the smooth run- ning of the measles vaccinatio­ns. Grade sixers enjoyed an interactiv­e presentati­on by Mcgill neural scientists on the workings of the brain and central nervous system. Thanks to parents who donated baking for the St. Patrick’s Day Bake sale and to the Home and School ladies. Grade 4 and 5 students enjoyed a presentati­on by students in the Premier Football Academy as well as coordinato­r Michael Burgess. The Premier Football Academy is Greendale’s new football sport concentrat­ion partner. Pierrefond­s Comprehens­ive High: Raffle tickets for the Best Buddies organizati­on are available this week; prize is a signed Habs cap. Year 5 IB students are preparing their Oral Defences on March 21 and 22. PC Idol is back! Get your tickets for the shows on March 20, 21, 22. Anyone interested in placing an ad in the souvenir program for this year’s production of Beauty and the Beast is asked to contact Lori Brown. All proceeds go to the Mark Bernotas Waterpolo Foundation. Emmanuel Christian School: Secondary 3 students are currently on their two-week missions. One team is working in Panama with YWAM and Awana and the other is serving with various churches and Christian organizati­ons in Montreal. Our 2012-2013 Secondary 1 students who are registered for the Enriched Program will be offered the opportunit­y to have an Apple Mac Pro laptop to use as a tool in all of their classes. A parent informatio­n session will take place in early April to discuss this exciting initiative. We still have a few spaces left in our Secondary 1 Enriched Program for next year.
