Online dating sites to look for predators
LOS ANGELES – Leading online dating companies eharmony, Match.com and the operator of sites Christian-Mingle and Jdate have agreed to check subscribers against national sex offender registries to screen out predators, the California attorney general said.
The set of business principles for the industry, also meant to screen out fraudsters, includes providing means to rapidly report abuse.
The companies said they have already taken similar steps to protect their customers, even before the public announcement was made on Tuesday.
State Attorney General Kamala Harris established an ecrime Unit last year to prosecute crimes involving use of technology.
