High school students must limit strike, board says

- THE GAZETTE

With a planned three-day high school student strike over university tuition hikes coming to an end on Thursday, the province’s largest school board said they have to find another way to express themselves.

In a notice to parents posted on its website, the Commission scolaire de Montréal noted that some student councils at its high schools had opted for three strike days. At the end of those three days, the board said students must choose another form of expression.

It also advised parents that student absences must be justified and taking part in a strike won’t pass muster as an excuse.

For schools where students haven’t held strike votes, the board suggested it would adopt an equitable approach.

On Thursday, there were no classes at four CSDM high schools where students had set up picket lines, preventing access, said Alain Perron, a CSDM spokesperson.
