Fans weigh in on Canadiens’ new GM

-

So, let me get this straight. An English guy from the top of the hill drives his car to pick up a French guy originally from the bottom of the hill to conduct a job interview. Together they hope to restore the tarnished reputation of the Bleu-blancRouge. How Montreal. How beautiful. Go Habs Go! Allan Grachnik Montreal

Well, it took about five minutes into Marc Bergevin’s first press conference as the new GM of the Canadiens until a genius from the French press asked the question: “Are you going to be putting a French face on the team?” I guess that’s about it for any chances the team has to be competitive if that will be part of the criteria for selecting players and building a team. I couldn’t imagine reporters in South Bend, Ind., asking a new GM of Notre Dame University’s basketball team if the intention is to have more white Irish players on the court. Our team finished last in the Eastern Conference, the third-worst record in the entire league, and this is what a reporter was asking? Sam Pollock once had the advantage of the first picks from Quebec, and now the suggestion is that the team should be handicapped because of language. We’ve probably won our last Stanley Cup.
