BIRTHDAY GUY: Actor John Rhys-davies was born in Salisbury, England, on this date in 1944. This birthday guy is known for his roles as Gimli in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy and Sallah in the “Indiana Jones” films. His other film work includes “The Living Daylights,” “Prisoners of the Sun” and “Waxwork.” He starred in the ‘90s TV series “Sliders,” as well as playing Rodrigues in the well-received 1980 miniseries “Shogun.”

ARIES (March 21-April 19): Take it easy. Use the weekend to recharge your batteries after a long week. Time spent with friends and loved ones will act as a tonic to cure what ails you. Treat yourself to a lavish gift if it tickles your fancy.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20): If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, again. No one starts off being great at what they do. It’s through practice and application that one learns and grows. A shadow from your past may hope to reconcile.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20): Do your home- work. Expand your mind by researching an interest or taking on a challenging puzzle. Look for pearls of wisdom from an experienced mentor then put this knowledge to use in daily activities.

CANCER (June 21-July 22): It takes two to tango. Show the object of your affection how much she or he means to you by finding a thoughtful gift or offering kind words. Social outings will be right up your alley; take a little trip.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): You can’t burn your candle at both ends. You may have more tasks than time, so it would be in your best interests to prioritize activities in order of importance. Leave the lines of communication open.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): It’s the little things that make the difference. Your patience and attention to detail will pay off in the end. The care you show toward painstaking detail will result in a rousing success. Take a bow.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): Love doesn’t cost a thing. While you may have pros- pects of a romantic nature, it doesn’t mean that any of them is Mr. or Ms. Right. Proceed with caution; remember that good things come to those who wait.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): Put someone on a pedestal. Woo the object of your affection with sweet nothings and presents that show how much you care. A quiet, intimate affair will be more to your liking than a group outing.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): Don’t indulge caviar tastes on a beer budget. To keep up with the Joneses by having the latest status symbol, you must go into debt. Be happy with what you have and let others play with extravagant toys.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): Old skeletons may come out of the closet. Look to touch base with friends that you haven’t seen in years. Relish the good old days and realize just how far you’ve come. Make the best of it.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): Be on your best behavior when dealing with new acquaintances, as there’s no telling what may be considered offensive. Bite your tongue when asked to give your honest opinion.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): Have a ball. Use up the weekend by grabbing the latest gadget or fiddling with the hottest fad. Adding a friend or two into the mix will only multiply your pleasure. Don’t quibble over minuscule details.

IF MAY 5 IS YOUR BIRTHDAY: Reaching up and claiming your ambitions may be the most important matter at the center of your existence in the next four to six weeks. Make decisions about a job, career or investments while you are in top form. With all of your energy, you might be wise to join a health club or gym so that you balance out your life with some social activities while letting your competitive nature have some breathing room in the proper venue. The new contacts you meet through clubs or organizations can brighten your life, but don’t spend too much time being the life of the party in July when you should be hard at work.
