Cougars finish perfect regular season
The Lakeshore Cougars capped off a perfect 11-0 regular season in the Scott Division of the Quebec Midget Football League with a 55-0 victory over the Sherbrooke Bulldogs.
Matt Laporta led the Cougars’ attack with a four-touchdown performance.
He opened the scoring when he returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown.
James Ohayon scored two TDs for the Cougars.
Mark Rossi returned an interception for a TD and Olivier Ackard also hit pay dirt once.
Rossy, Jack Ferguson and Daniel Olvera shone defensively for the Cougars.
Iain Sim’s Cougars are now preparing for the midget football playoffs against Heppell Division opponents.
The Cougars meet the LaSalle Warriors in a quarterfinal game this Sunday at 4 p.m. in LaSalle. In bantam action, the North Shore Lions play a quarterfinal game against Sun Youth (5-5) Saturday at 1 p.m. at Riverdale Park in Pierrefonds.
The Lions placed first in the Bill Allan Division standings with an 8-2 record. In the season finale, the Lions defeated the Greenfield Park Packers 45-0. Elsewhere, the Lakeshore bantam Cougars (7-3) finished second in the division and will meet the Laval Cobras (6-4) this Saturday (3:30 p.m.) at Parc Bénévoles in Kirkland.
Meanwhile, the North Shore Cheetahs finished first in the Mironowicz Division with a perfect 10-0 mark. In CEGEP football action, the John Abbott Islanders Isles (26) took one on the chin Saturday when they lost 55-0 to Collège Sherbrooke.
Despite the loss, the Isles can still reach the playoffs by defeating Collège Beauce-Appalaches this Saturday in their last home game of the year.
Beauce-Appalaches currently sits in the last available playoff spot, two points up on the Isles.
Kickoff is 7 p.m. on Saturday night at Memorial Field in SteAnne-de-Bellevue.
