Big-name friends ready to do their part for George

- DOUG CAMILLI camillimail@gmail.com

When George Clooney calls, people pick up: Deadline Hollywood reports that an impressive lineup of talent has come running when invited by Clooney to take part in his new movie The Monuments Men.

Bill Murray, Daniel Craig, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin of The Artist, John Goodman, Hugh Bonneville of Downton Abbey, and veteran character actor Bob Balaban are all on board or in talks to take part. More names may follow.

George has a writing credit on this movie, and will direct and star. It’s about British and American experts in the late 1940s, recovering artworks stolen by the Nazis. Shooting starts March 1, in Europe.

Speaking of George, I note that his lady friend Stacy Keibler is making hay while the sun shines.

The N.Y. Post listed some of the numerous endorsement deals and personal appearances she has made lately, mostly in New York. These include events touting Valspar Paint, a dress-rental outfit called Rent the Runway, Macallan Scotch’s Masters of Photography collection and a kitchenware line called GD Cucine.

And, artfully evading the bad weather, she was the hostess at the Hyde Bellagio casino-hotel’s Halloween party the other night.

Some of these sound kind of low-rent to me, but hey, as long as they all spell her name right on the cheques … Spotlight couple: Pippa Middleton’s latest is one James Matthews, an investment banker. They’ve “been out together a few times,” Don’t Usemyname tells Us Weekly. She’s 29, he’s 37.

Angelina Jolie took the three youngest kids out shopping for Halloween costumes the other day, in L.A.

With Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne, she spent an hour poking around something called the Halloween Adventure Superstore, and ended up with a unicorn costume for Viv, which the 4-year-old insisted on wearing at once, and some other stuff US Weekly’s nosy reporter couldn’t see.

Harrumph. She calls herself a good mother? Why wasn’t she home sewing costumes out of old bedsheets and painting cardboard boxes and all that?

Shiloh is 6. Knox, being Vivienne’s twin, is also 4.

Anderson Cooper’s syndicated TV talk show has been canned, after two seasons. Nobody was watching, it seems.

However, the show will not vanish until next summer, doubtless because contracts run until then. He’s 45.

Are the Democrats in the great republic to the south getting desperate?

Now Joss Whedon, the scriptwriter (The Avengers), show-runner (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), cameo actor and self-promoter, has made a video message warning that if Mitt Romney is elected, the zombie apocalypse is sure to follow:

“The 1 per cent won’t be the very rich. It will be the very fast,” he says. “The Zomneys will come for all of us.” He’s 48.

Drew Barrymore’s five-year contract to shill for Cover Girl makeup expires in January. Shortly thereafter, WWD reports, she’ll launch her own cosmetics line, possibly in an exclusive deal with Walmart.

Also involved: an Italian company called Intercos that actually produces these goops. Hey, somebody’s got to do the work. She’s 37.
