QUEBECERS ADVANCE IN TEVLIN TENNIS

TORONTO — Five Canadians won their opening matches Wednesday at the Tevlin Challenger event at Rexall Centre. Eugenie Bouchard of Westmount defeated Nicole Rottmann of Austria 6-0, 6-3 and Stéphanie Dubois of Laval beat Françoise Abanda of Montreal, 6-2, 7-6 (6). Toronto’s Sharon Fichman defeated Gloria Liang, of Mississaug­a, Ont., 6-2, 7-5, Gabriela Dabrowski of Ottawa downed American Samantha Crawford 5-7, 6-0 and Erin Routliffe, of Caledon, Ont., topped American Jan Abaza 6-2, 6-0. Rebecca Marino, of Vancouver, and Elisabeth Founier, of Ottawa, advanced to the second round earlier in the week.
